Student Spotlight, Blessing Akorlie
by Heartland Community College
Meet Heartland Hawk Blessing Akorlie!
Blessing is a Criminal Justice major planning to graduate from HCC in May 2026. She’s passionate about pursuing justice and already has her sights set on the future. Her goal is to transfer to Illinois State University and eventually apply to law schools in Georgia or Texas.
What makes HCC stand out to her is the environment. She finds inspiration in the campus architecture, from the glass windows that light up the hallways to the mural that greets students at WDC. Just as meaningful is the support she’s received along the way. “The staff truly help guide you to success,” she says.
Outside of her studies, Blessing enjoys collecting vinyl records, reading, watching movies, and staying active. Sports have been part of her life from a young age, including soccer, volleyball, rugby, and softball.
Her greatest inspiration comes from her siblings. As the oldest sister and a first-generation student, she is determined to succeed not only for herself but for her family. “I want my siblings to always be able to rely on me and follow me to success.”
